4 of Wands

The Four of Wands is an evolving paper-based installation that adapts in scale, orientation, and arrangement according to the architecture of the space it occupies. Comprised of an expanding collection of intricately cut paper works, each iteration of the installation is unique—its composition, placement, and visual sequencing shifting with every installation.

Both sides of each paper element are adorned with patterns and illustrations that reference a wide range of visual traditions, including classical art, occult symbology, and heraldic design. These dual-sided surfaces invite viewers to navigate the work physically and interpretively, uncovering new relationships between image and form.

The title draws from the Four of Wands card in the Rider-Waite Tarot deck. Mystical and historical in nature, the tarot operates through layered interpretation—each card’s meaning shaped by the presence and order of others within a spread. Likewise, each assembly of The Four of Wands opens up a new constellation of visual narratives, offering a shifting tableau of symbolism, intuition, and association.
