Artist Statement:
For me, chair design has become a preoccupation that bridges multiple elements of my practice. Chair design often involves historical research. Chair building harkens to architecture-and thus the consideration of objects in the spaces they inhabit, as well as the structure of the object itself. Chair building challenges and expands my carpentry skills, knowledge of tools, materials and finishes. Chair design demands my consideration of the other work happening in my studio, and is informed by (and informs) goals I’ve set for other projects.
