Flora
Produced by EXILE Books
2019

Flora is an illustrated artist’s coloring book produced by EXILE Books in collaboration with the Center for Subtropical Affairs.

Lique approached the project as an act of reconnection with both nature and the joy of art making. While he did not design the publication itself, every illustration in FLORA was hand-drawn by Lique, whose process became a meditative return to drawing for pleasure.

Referencing botanical textbooks and direct observation, Lique sought to render “accurate” depictions of South Florida’s native flora, focusing on plants that define the region’s delicate ecosystem yet often go unnoticed in daily life. The resulting drawings are both educational and expressive, inviting viewers to slow down and engage with their environment through the intimate act of looking.

As a collaborator on the project, Lique’s contribution underscores Flora's broader mission: to cultivate civic ecology and an understanding of how humans and other organisms coexist within shared systems of care, energy, and cultural interaction.
